History of the Biennial Numerical Analysis Conferences
This long-running series of conferences has been held in Scotland since 1965.
The early years of the conferences and the development of numerical analysis in Scotland are described in [1,3] by Alistair Watson.
The first conference took place in St Andrews in 1965, and was organised by
Ron Mitchell, Jack Lambert, Mike Osborne and Donald Kershaw.
Ron organised a second meeting at St Andrews in 1967 and then things changed.
Ron Michell and was recruited to a chair
at Dundee University later in 1967, and the sequence of
Dundee Conferences
started in 1969. They ran every two years until 2007 and were organised by
John Morris, David Griffiths and Alistair Watson at different times.
Since 2009, the conferences have been hosted by the University of Strathclyde.
Nick Higham attended many of the conferences and wrote a blog article [2] celebrating the 50th anniversary
in 2015.
